The Cranbrook Girl Guides held their advancement ceremony on Wednesday, May 16, at the College of the Rockies. Sparks, Brownies, Guides and Rangers celebrated the year of hard work and fellowship at the disco-themed event. The Rangers prepared and hosted the ceremony, assisted by Area Commissioner Brande Samson. The Pathfinders were absent, as they were on a trip to Disneyland. Also at the ceremony, the guiders (leaders) were all presented with their year pins. The one leader missing was to be presented with a 50-year pin (the years include those as a girl and as a leader). Registration for the new year begins on June 3, online at www.girlguides.ca. Anyone with questions or interested in joining as a leader can contact District Commissioner Tara Archambault at guider.tara@gmail.com. There is also a Facebook page - Cranbrook girl guides of Canada, for upcoming events and information pertaining to Cranbrook. The Cranbrook Guides are looking forward to an exciting upcoming year. Their new camp will be up and running for all to enjoy on a unit level, as well as a district level. The Guides hope to hold campouts, meetings and district-wide events at the camp. The organization is still in need of a few items, however, such as bunk beds, picnic tables, a wheelchair ramp, kitchen fillers and a number of other items. If you are interested in donating, contact Commissioner Tara Archambault at guider.tara@gmail.com.
