    Hyperbole is not your friend

As I was reading C. Swan’s letter (Make The Call, Bring Khadr Home, Feb. 4), I was inclined to go along with some of your reasoning.

I am not a lawyer, and I just don’t know the legal issues surrounding the Omar Khadr case. Therefore it all sounded reasonable to me.

    Then you blew it.

You stated: "He was then sent to Guantanamo Bay where he has endured every type of horrible torture that prison practices."

The actual facts do not support this statement. There has never been any evidence of torture at Guantanamo, let alone evidence that Khadr was tortured.

In fact, agencies like the Red Cross have visited Guantanamo, and found that the prisoners were well treated.

The insertion of this statement in your letter serves no purpose and has detracted from an otherwise well-written article.

Once I read that sentence, everything else in your letter became suspect.

Well compared to the two, I would have to agree, I believe the US soldiers at least would keep me alive in rather decent shape, rather than mutilated and dead in a ditch.

If I was ever in a position where I had a choice, I think Gitmo would be better than staying at the Taliban Hilton....

Actually the authorities at Gitmo have been reprimanded for water-boarding and sleep depriviation techniques, both banned under the Geneva Convention, and that I imagine is just the tip of the iceberg.
