    Harper will gut Canada

The Harper government is seemingly ready to financially gut the country in the name of reducing the deficit. In the process, the social programs that we value most will be destroyed.

Stephen Harper understands that a structural deficit now exists thanks to the reduction of taxes over the last 10 years, particularly those taxes paid by the wealthiest people and corporations. No matter how strong our economy, unless the wealthy and super-wealthy begin paying an appropriate portion of tax (currently the top one per cent pays less than the bottom 10 per cent), our country will remain in deficit.

The dismantling of social services and privatization has begun. The gap between the rich and poor — already greater than it has ever been in this country — will continue to widen. Frankly, like most Canadians, I'd rather pay more taxes, if I know it will go to social programs, like universal childcare and not military spending.
It is time for women to stand up and demand the Canada they want for their children. It's clear that the Conservatives are supported predominantly by men, so if women want a change, we must speak up.

Write your MP, your local paper's editor and speak with friends. Support a movement to run only one candidate to oppose Conservative candidates so that we can ensure their defeat in the coming election.
