In what Staff Sgt. Gord Stewart describes as the largest drug bust in memory at the Kingsgate port of entry, a truck driver was caught attempting to bring about 10 kilograms of cocaine, worth about $400,000, in to Canada on Friday evening.
A 46-year-old male from Alberta was arrested and a commercial truck and trailer were seized, according to Cpl. Kim Bloy, who is in charge of the Creston Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET). The male was later released with conditions and faces a court date in Creston.
Stewart said a Canada Border Services Agency inspector checked the truck when he became suspicious of the driver’s travel route, which originated in California. The inspector located a possible hiding spot and a backpack full of the illegal drug tumbled to the ground. Creston RCMP and IBET are continuing the investigation.
