Kamloops SPCA is looking for a new manager.
After a year on the job, shelter manager Dustan Eager is leaving the organization to spend more time with his children and fiancée, he said Monday.
“I have children who now live in Westwold, and my fiancée and I are getting ready to get married and start having a family and start living off the land,” said Eager.
“Unfortunately, that means I can’t dedicate the time and the energy and effort needed to properly do the job for the BCSPCA and the community.”
Eager’s last day will be Friday, one day after the posting closes for a new manager.
He had served in the position since March of 2009, taking over from longtime SPCA shelter manager Jennifer Gore, who left for a job at Thompson Rivers University.
In Eager’s short time at the SPCA, though, he learned just how demanding the job of shelter manager can be, and he had some words of wisdom Monday for anyone interested in stepping into that role.
“Yes, it is a tough job,” he said.
“You have to have a high amount of energy, be a very good time manager, be very good with dealing with the public, because in that role, one wears a lot of different hats. A lot of different hats.”
