I wish to extend a thank-you to city council for what was, I'm sure, a difficult decision. Saying yes to water meters in the face of some vehement and often nasty personal attacks is a testament to your commitment to the community and to what is best for the majority of its citizens.
Many citizens already ignore the two-day watering bylaws; others waste and use entirely too much water washing driveways etc. You should not be held to a 10-year-old referendum and I appreciate not wasting more money on a new one. Water is a commodity and should be maintained as such, as they do in most larger cities.
Metering is the only solution able to make people accountable for their water use. Kamloops will continue to have increased demand on our water system as it grows and you are taking the necessary steps to ensure it will be affordable for all in the future.
