Lane closure will benefit farmers

Library

On Friday, June 4, a special emergency meeting of the library board was convened to discuss the request by the Farmers’ Market for the closure of the roadway on the north side of the library building. At the meeting Erika Domeij, the market manager, as well as the market president explained that the new location of the farmers’ market had increased the number of vendors as well as market traffic and they were at the point where expansion was a necessity. She also explained that due to the underground irrigation system in Gyro Park vendors with heavy trucks or other heavy equipment couldn't park on the grass, but could use the roadway to set up. The library board realizes the closure of the roadway 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on market days will be of some inconvenience to Library patrons, but the board also considered the bigger picture, the benefit to local farmers, and the increased tourist traffic the Farmers’ Market has generated and in voting the library board unanimously supported the Farmer's Market request to the city. Library patrons will still have access to parking at the rear of the building and "special needs" parking spaces are available on the street.
