Road closure to fix fence trespass

A decades old error in placing a fence at the Cambridge Crescent Sikh Temple is coming for resolution to council next week so a road closure can be approved.

Kamloops council will be asked to approve the closure and dedication of a piece of roadway, beside Cambridge Crescent on the North Shore, which is expected to have no affect on traffic or vehicle movement.

The error in placing the fence along Cambridge Crescent occurred decades ago, said City real estate manager Dave Freeman.

“The fence follows what seemed like the curve of the road, what the fence contractor thought it was.”

The error came to light when the society applied for a building permit for a new entryway on its building. A review of the plans showed the fence on city roadway.

Freeman said the society purchased the property for $6,000, based on the assessed value of the temple property beside Cambridge Crescent.

The property is about 3,600 square feet. Freeman said despite the roadway being behind a fence, it is not used by the temple society.
