Owner needs education

Animal cruelty

There is a woman who lives up the street from me who is certainly old enough to know better.

My husband and I were sitting on our deck enjoying a Sunday afternoon when we saw a lovely little dog come trotting down the street, wanting to interact with our dogs.

So here we were, watching this little guy or gal happy to meet his or her own kind and playing through our fence.

We then saw this woman come along in a car with a man and they stopped at our house when they saw the dog. By the look on this woman’s face, I suspected this was her dog. That she looked stern is about the only way I can describe it.

Well, imagine our horror when she walked up to this sweet little dog who was wagging his tail when he looked up to her. She then reached down and picked up this little guy by the scruff of the neck and shook him! Not only that, but she was yelling at him saying, “I hope that hurts!” and as soon as she got in the car, she began to hit him! The man in the car seemed to think it was funny from the grin on his face.

I know this woman and had no idea she even owned a dog. I’ve never seen it out in her yard or her walking it. But I was livid when I saw the way she treated her pet! I sincerely wish that we had our own SPCA as I would have moved heaven and earth for re-education for this woman. I now worry that the little guy gets worse than that in private.

I hope to speak with the animal control officer to see what if anything a person can do when they see this abuse.

For this woman and others who feel they must reprimand their pets this way, remember, they cannot logic this out. If you call them to come to you, by the time they get to you they have no idea that they will be abused because they came when you called. Instead, praise them and they will more likely return to you easily the next time you call them! Tried and true. Enough said, for now.
