Seniors’ facility is needed

Once again the British Columbia government is cutting costs at the expense of small town and rural constituents.

We have very few votes and very little clout, so hit the little guys whose voices can’t be heard.

Grand Forks and this entire area is being touted as a great place to retire.

So, what is happening?

As our citizens age and more and more seniors are moving here, Interior Health has decided that we do not need the new seniors’ home that is being opened at Broadacres.

I was told by the operator that it had previously been agreed that up to eight beds would be subsidized by our health system. That deal is now being cancelled as “the facility is not needed in this area.” Balderdash!

If Broadacres cannot succeed, we will lose the chance to have another facility here. Period.

If I should need this care, I don’t want to be sent to Creston, Trail or Cranbrook.

Is there nothing we can do to stop this travesty?
