On Thursday evening we had one of those ‘white sundaes that have the red and blue toppings on them’ arrive at our door. They were there to let us know that our neighbours’ rights were being abused. And, of course, we were suspect.
You have to understand that these poor hard done neighbours have ATVs, motorbikes, skidoos, classic cars, pick ups and/or campers, riding lawnmowers, underground sprinklers, power tools, satellite and/or cable, dogs and children that are all being abused.
We live in Area D, so there are very few bylaws that would apply to any of this. But these poor neighbours are complaining about our audio noise. Now let me explain the kind of audio problem we are talking about; we listen to CBC Radio on our radio, and sometimes put on the record player once in awhile to spin a few tunes and all of this takes place between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. And the level is only for us to hear, not party time levels. And they have had to endure the sound of ’Jeopardy’ except we do not get TV, so maybe their wife or husband went somewhere in their house and put on ‘Jeopardy’ in that particular case. I just know it was not us.
Meanwhile, we have had to listen to there lawnmowers every other day, in their competition to see who has the better lawn, and the revving of engines to check and see if they still run, and just how well they run. There have been their renos to their homes where power tools start at 6:30 a.m., and go into the night with no apparent care as to others’ discomfort. Dogs pooping all over our yard and barking at us on our own property, growling; and then they run off and do not come back to their owners until their names are well known to us all. Now there is also a puppy (owned by one of our neighbours) who yelps and whimpers so sadly that I will be calling animal control. And lastly although we have had such good weather that all our watering needs are being taken care of by the heavens, our neighbours still have their sprinklers going off every night. So whose rights are in peril, theirs or ours?
