A golfer from Christina Lake has earned a berth to the upcoming B.C. Summer Games in the township of Langley, B.C.
MacKenzie Field, who has been golfing since the age of four, says that chipping is one of her strengths but says that she could work on her form going into the games, which take place between July 22 to 25.
“My weakness is cutting across (the ball) right now and I’m working really hard on not doing that,” Field said.
“(I’m) swinging from out to in and then you lose all your distance. If you swing in and out you get more distance.”
Field qualified for the summer games after taking part in a tournament in Creston, B.C. on June 6 and the conditions were less than ideal.
“It was raining really hard but it was fun, I golfed with the other girl that qualified (Amber Arnold of Castlegar), and we’re really close.”
Field along with eight others will represent the Kootenays at Redwoods Golf Course in Langley.
She says she hasn’t played that particular course but Christina Lake golf pro Kyle Stoudt has been advising her.
“(Stoudt) says that there are lots of big trees but it’s nice,” said Field.
Despite the fact that the games will take place in late summer, there is a chance that they weather, like the qualifier at Creston, could be rainy but Field says she’s ready.
“I play in the rain a lot. In the club championship a few years ago it rained and I played pretty well then so it’s not a big deal,” she said.
