To the Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to wish a happy 143rd birthday to our beautiful country named Canada. She certainly is a lovely young lady in deed, and we all love her very much. Also, this would be the perfect time to share something important with my fellow citizens of Creston.
Five years from now, Jan. 11, 2015, will mark the bicentennial of the birth of our nation's first prime minister, Sir John A. MacDonald. He is also known as Father of Confederation (among others). This is why I feel it is imperative that we Canadians should start making plans, as soon as possible, to celebrate this historic milestone all across Canada — including right here in Creston.
National unity is now more important than ever before. Our greatest strength is for men, women, First Nations and people from all walks of life to work together in mutual co-operation. This includes Quebec, as well, because I am French myself — and Conservative. We must also stand united against terrorism and extremism in any way, shape or form, and confront this threat directly, wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head, otherwise freedom, democracy and the motherland of Canada will cease to exist!
I have a feeling the best years are yet to come for us Canadians. But he or she must have faith and never give up hope during these difficult times because in the long run, things will get better. For myself personally, I believe in a higher power, angels and miracles — this was due to an experience I had several years ago in which I had a choice to make: either be miserable and cranky for the rest of my life, or choose to be kind, generous, warm, compassionate and spiritual. Fortunately I made the right decision!
In closing, everyone enjoy Canada's birthday on July 1 and keep supporting our troops in Afghanistan.
