Corbin Keep and Mel Watson are Travelin’ Light — eclectic, energetic cello and horn driven songs, sung with passion and panache — and will be performing at the Snoring Sasquatch on July 16.
Keep has been performing as a solo cellist/singer for many years at festivals throughout Canada and the U.S. In 1999, Keep (the “wild cellist”) met Watson at the Islands Folk Fest when she was performing as one third of the intensely creative musical talent of Australia's Fruit. Ten years later, Keep and Watson joined forces to collaborate creatively, instrumentally and vocally.
Watson is the winner of 19 music awards for creative achievements, including nine for most outstanding instrumentalist. With a four-octave range and an arsenal of instruments behind her, her voice is a dynamic instrument, enabling her to create interesting and subtle aural flavours.
Together, Keep and Watson are dynamic and innovative with an unbelievably captivating stage presence. Beyond labels and boxes, they simply are music.
“Mel Watson was booked into the Showroom as a solo in-concert act when she showed up with that wild cellist Corbin Keep in tow and informed us this was going to be an extremely fun performance,” said Longevity John, owner of the Duncan Garage Showroom. “Well, when you take two people who already are quite able to reshape your preconceptions of vocal and instrumental prowess and then let them loose on the same stage to play — wow. … An extremely fun performance.”
Doors to the Creston concert open at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8. Tickets are $10 in advance at Kingfisher Used Books or $12 at the door.
