Giving credit where credit is due

To the Editor:

I want to thank everyone who expressed their appreciation for the new aquatic facility.

However, during the proceedings, certain people were not mentioned, but they played a very important part of the process from vision to referendum to building. These people are the Town of Creston councillors who approved of the steps to building the centre. As Regional District of Central Kootenay director for the Town of Creston, I conveyed their wishes to all our RDCK meetings; I was only the seventh member of council in all discussions.

I would like to acknowledge these individuals and give them due credit: Couns. Joanna Wilson, Len Folkman and Wes Graham, and former councillors Ed Vondracek and Leon Mueller, and last but not least, the late Lawrence Lavender, who was tireless in his promotion toward the referendum. I only wish he could have seen the project completion and opening.

These councillors were on board with the direction taken by myself and fellow RDCK directors John Kettle, Tom Mann and Verna Mayers-McKenzie. They never wavered in support of the project, understanding the importance to our valley of this beautiful structure.

We looked at the referendum approval by the voters as a sign of our valley moving into the new millennium.

As a council, we were a team and they deserve the credit for their support of this project. When you meet them on the street, say thank you for a job well done.

Enjoy the complex!

Jo Snopek

Former Creston Mayor
