Former Crestonite Dave Lang is returning to Creston with the Black Squirrels to play at the Snoring Sasquatch on July 21, as part of an eight-day tour that will take him from Victoria to Saskatchewan and back.

Lang, who went to high school in Creston, tours regularly across Canada, and was on the road for three months straight last fall. A respected songwriter, he has his songs covered by Neko Case, Carolyn Mark, Geoff Berner and others.

The Black Squirrels are an ace backup band featuring Casey Ryder on upright bass, Paul Kannaspuro on saxophone and flute, and Joel Fernandes on drums. With them, Lang offers western swing originals and covers.

“Dave Lang is an original throwback to a time when subtlety and good humour meant something. … This is a show to experience,” said Winnipeg Folk Fest founder Mitch Podolak.

The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance at Kingfisher Used Books or $12 at door.
