To the Editor:
Everyone in the Creston Valley should be excited about the possibility of having a member of Parliament from Creston.
The Conservative Party of the Kootenay-Columbia riding is in the process of selecting its candidate to run in the next federal election. There are two persons contending the nomination: Wesly Graham of Creston and a retired policeman from Sparwood.
Never before have the Conservatives run a candidate that was born or raised in the constituency. This time there is one of us, but you must have or take out a $10 party membership to be eligible to attend the nominating meeting and vote for Wes.
Considering the weakness of the federal Liberals and the NDP in this riding, the nominating meeting that selects the Conservative candidate is tantamount to electing our next MP. Thus, Wes Graham's biggest battle is to secure the nomination. So I urge all in the valley — red, orange, green and purple — to take out a Conservative membership so you can vote for Wes to be the candidate.
Frankly, it's got to be more than Creston and more than “Wes is one of us.” Having watched the other candidate in action at the Regional District of East Kootenay for years, to me Wes wins by a country mile. The Kootenay-Columbia riding is vast, and an energetic young person is what's called for.
I urge every Mary, Jane, Tom, John and Charlie to support Wes. Wes will win with your support.
