Cyclist survives accident

Police report

On July 22, a 79-year old male was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle along Highway 3 between Christina Lake and Grand Forks.

The man sustained a head injury and a broken leg due to the accident and RCMP say that it appears as if he had swerved out into traffic, possibly to cross the highway, before being hit.

Grand Forks RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison says that he was taken to the hospital and was in serious but stable condition.

July 22 At 1:53 a.m., police received report of a suspect attempting to enter a residence on 12th Street and 66th Avenue in Grand Forks.

A resident awoke to the sound of a window screen being cut and saw a male climbing through the window.

The male was described as being approximately 18-years of age with olive skin, short, dark hair and a blue-pattern bandana around his neck.

The suspect fled the scene.

At 5:43 a.m. the same day, there was a report of windows at Hutton Elementary being smashed.

The alarm went off, police attended the scene and there was an estimated $1,500 worth of damage.

RCMP have no suspects at this time.

July 23-25 There were a number of loud parties out at Christina Lake over the weekend but all people were compliant once police asked them to shut the parties down.

Anyone who has information on these or any other incidents is asked to call Grand Forks RCMP.

Harrison also reminds boaters out at Christina Lake that RCMP will be patrolling the water over the summer months.

"We're starting to see some water patrols being done. We'll be looking for operator competency cards for anybody operating a vessel over 10 horsepower," he said.
