To the Editor:
When I read the June 24 edition of the Advance, I saw that the headline used was “One right answer to question”, which could possibly be misunderstood. When I asked the question “Have you met Jesus yet?” the right one for a Jehovah's Witness has been no. But there are two answers to the question. There are those that can truthfully answer yes. They are called born again Christians; what is born again is their spirit. God, who is spirit, took on flesh as the man Jesus. He rose from the dead, because He is God, and shows Himself to all those who put their faith in Him. He said that if we would love and obey Him, He would show myself to us. God, who is Spirit, enters the believer’s heart. It is like the blind suddenly seeing for the first time.
Anybody can know about Jesus — the Bible states that even demons know about Jesus — but that is not enough. If one has not yet been touched by the Lord, what they have is just a belief, not a relationship. Jesus, who is spirit and has always existed, took on flesh as a man. When He reveals Himself now, He enters us as spirit. That is what “baptism in the Holy Spirit”, or “born again”, is. He is spirit and He is holy — the Holy Spirit. He is not an “active force” as the Watchtower teaches. 2 Corinthians 3:17 states that the Lord is the Spirit.
A Christian is one who is a follower of Christ; Jesus is his or her Lord. The Bible states that Jesus is the only mediator between man and God. The name Jesus in the original language means “Jehovah saves”. To call upon the name Jehovah is to ignore Jesus’ death on the cross. One must call upon Jesus for salvation. It is not enough to know about Him; one must know Him personally. He said, “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:14)
My point in the last letter was that a Jehovah's Witness is not a witness for God. He is a slave of the Watch Tower Society and can't bring a person into a right relationship with God, only Jesus can. No man should be ruled by a religious organization. Each and every individual has to call upon Jesus themselves.
If you haven't met Jesus yet, you are in for the treat of your life. All the descriptive words in the Bible and in our vocabulary are not enough to tell about how wonderful He is. This the one who gives us beautiful sunsets, children to love and cherish, laughter, the emotions of love, the joy of life, and wonder of wonders — a promise of eternal life with Him with His companionship. The world and its pleasures are nothing compared to the future we will have with Him, if we follow His teaching and love Him.
