Coroner’s service identifies weekend fatalities

A Richmond man and an angler from Salmon Arm who died in separate incidents near Chase have been identified by the coroner’s service.

Emanuel Tomsicek, 75, of Richmond, was driving a 1989 Alfa Romeo Saturday morning when it crossed the centre line of the Trans-Canada Highway and collided with a 2008 Nissan Rogue SUV near Silvery Beach.

The driver and two passengers in the Nissan were taken by ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Police do not suspect speed or alcohol contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation.

RCMP were dispatched to a report of a drowning in the South Thompson River at Chase on Sunday. Three fishermen pulled the body of Roman Walter Zrinski, 57, of Salmon Arm from the water.

Regional coroner Bruce Chamberlayne said autopsies will be performed on both victims.
