So now God is a real estate broker?

I read with interest the article regarding taxing a church parking lot which was discussed and rejected at a recent council meeting.

Apparently Nancy Bepple is the only member of council who thinks that a parking lot is a parking lot no matter if people who believe in a supernatural being use it or not.

Coun. Pat Wallace went so far as to say  "I learned a long time ago not to get into a fight with god."  A fight with God?  So god is now a real estate broker and parking lot attendant as well as being in charge of the universe?

For too long churches have been given special status when it comes to paying taxes while the rest of us mortals struggle along subsidizing some of the richest institutions on the planet.

Not only should they pay taxes on the parking lot, but on all the property they own. This amounts to millions in real estate and they pay no taxes because some politicians don't want to get into a fight with god?

Perhaps we could all take a step back and see the silliness of worrying about such things. Perhaps the churches should start paying taxes on the lavish real estate holdings they own instead of the public being forced to subsidize their irrational beliefs.

I will happily deliver the bill to God the next time I see him.
