Grizzly trio still okay

Despite rumours to the contrary, Sgt. Joe Caravetta of the Conservation service says that as far as he knows the three grizzly bears making the news in late summer are still alive and well.

?I haven?t heard anything about them since they left the Premier Lake area,? Caravetta said.

Some in Kimberley were reporting that the bears were put down last week.

Untrue, Caravetta says.

?There was a grizzly shot in self-defence in the Bull River area,? he said. ?Maybe that?s where the story is coming from.?

The grizzlies, a sow and two almost grown cubs, travelled through Cranbrook and Kimberley in September, causing quite a stir. The theory was that the bears, which had been relocated from Elkford, were trying to make their way back home.
