COURT BRIEFS: Man accused in double murder remains in jail

A man accused of murdering two Kamloops residents appeared briefly in provincial court Monday.

Roy Fraser, 53, is charged with the first-degree murder of Damien Marks, 31, and the second-degree murder of Kenneth Yaretz, 24. Both victims were found by police in a shallow grave on a Knouff Lake property about a month after they disappeared in April 2009.

Charges were sworn last month. Fraser turned himself in to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Fraser has not yet sought bail. He will appear in court on Jan. 6.

A man shot by Kamloops RCMP did not make a scheduled court appearance Monday.

Gregory Warren McNeil, 43, was supposed to appear in provincial court but he remained in hospital. His case was adjourned until Dec. 6.

McNeil is charged with uttering threats and weapons offences after an incident at Sun Peaks Friday.

Two officers were at the resort following a threats complaint. Police said McNeil was shot after he pulled a handgun as the officers tried to take him into custody.

Police report McNeil did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Lethbridge police are investigating the incident.

The sentencing hearing for a man who pleaded guilty to drug offences was adjourned Monday until after a verdict is rendered in an unrelated case.

Travis Bobroske will learn today whether he is guilty of aggravated assault, following a trial in B.C. Supreme Court two weeks ago.

The Crown alleges Bobroske, who was once apparently affiliated with the Red Alert gang, stabbed a United Nations gang associate.

Justice Robert Powers was scheduled to give a verdict last week, but the hearing was rescheduled for today.

Bobroske will face the drug charges Dec. 6.
