Student lawsuit ‘an abuse of process,’ says TRU

A student’s lawsuit against TRU suggesting officials and instructors discriminated against the man and his frequent illness is “vexatious and scandalous,” says the school’s response.

Adrian Miller is suing TRU, alleging instructors and officials did not properly accommodate his illnesses, which caused him to miss many classes and much of his class work.

As a result, his official record shows DNC — “Did Not Complete” — alongside many of those courses. That led to problems with his student loans, as financial aid requires students to maintain course loads.

Miller says the way TRU dealt with the issue destroyed his academic career. TRU denies the allegations, saying Miller’s lawsuit is “an abuse of the court process.”

The case was in court Monday as Miller and TRU’s lawyer Rob McDiarmid argued over details related to the suit’s progress through the courts. The matter is bound for trial, likely next year.
