Amber Alert issued for missing Sparwood child

RCMP in southeastern B.C. have issued an Amber Alert for a missing three-year-old boy who is believed to have been abducted by a 46-year-old man from his home in Sparwood.

Police are seeking Randall Hopley, believed to be driving a 1987 Toyota Camry, on the suspicion that he has taken Kienan Hebert. The car has a B.C. licence plate, 098RAL.

The alert says Hopley is not related to the missing boy, who was discovered missing from his home Wednesday morning.

A massive search involving helicopters and police canine units was launched for the boy, who has a history of sleepwalking, in the community 125 km east of Sparwood.

Police said it appears the boy disappeared some time overnight from his home in the Sparwood Heights, just off Highway 43 north.

He was reportedly put to bed by his parents on Tuesday evening, but was not in his bed when they checked on him at about 8:30 a.m. MT on Wednesday.

It was at first speculated that the boy might have wandered into the night while sleepwalking.

Officers from Kelowna's Major Crime Unit are now on their way to the scene to investigate.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said the Elk Valley RCMP is being assisted by neighbouring police forces in the search for the boy.

The boy, who has short blond hair, was last seen wearing Scooby-Doo boxer shorts.
