The Crown wants bail revoked for a former Kamloops gangster who faces charges here as well as in Vancouver.
Thomas Crawford, 30, appeared in provincial court in Kamloops Monday by way of a video appearance from a Lower Mainland prison.
The former Independent Soldier — local RCMP believe Crawford was once the Kamloops second-in-command of the western-based street gang — is charged with assault and dangerous driving related to an incident in Kamloops last May.
The Crown alleges Crawford attacked a Kamloops man in a road-rage incident on city streets. He was released on bail. In October, he was arrested again in Richmond in relation to allegations he was involved with the kidnapping and confinement of a man there.
He is charged along with others — including Kamloops residents David Tarrant, 28, and Veronica Moncur, 20 — with 14 offences. Crawford sought bail in Vancouver Thursday on the Richmond charges but was not successful.
In court in Kamloops Monday, prosecutor Carole Hawes said the Crown seeks to have Crawford’s Kamloops bail revoked as well, even though he has been detained on the Richmond charges.
Defence lawyer Chris Thompson said he has not yet had the chance to speak to his client about how to proceed with the Kamloops charges and as a result, the Crown’s application to revoke Crawford’s his bail here was adjourned.
Thompson acknowledged the charges Crawford faces in Vancouver are much more serious than the ones he faces in Kamloops.
