The Sa-Hali Sabres senior girls basketball team won the weekend’s Sabre-Saint Classic, to which it played host along with the NorKam Saints.
Sa-Hali came back from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Vernon Panthers 63-58 in Saturday’s final. Tournament MVP Nicole Karstein had 17 points and 14 rebounds in the victory, and player of the game Shenise Sigsworth scored 15 points.
Emily Hilton also had 12 points for Sa-Hali, and Meagan Hill was an all-star. Mary Rice was Vernon’s all-star.
The Sabres opened with a 71-18 victory over the Maple Ridge-Westview Wildcats, before dropping the Vernon-Kalamalka Lakers 58-38. Sa-Hali beat the Prince George Polars in a semifinal.
The Oliver-Southern Okanagan Hornets finished third, with the Polars fourth and the Summerland Rockets fifth. The Lakers were sixth, ahead of the seventh-place Vernon-Clarence Fulton Maroons and the eighth-place Prince George-D.P. Todd Trojans.
The Saints beat the Prince George-Duchess Park Condors 59-55 in the ninth-place game. Reiko Ohama was the Saints’ all-star.
The Penticton-Princess Margaret Mustangs finished 11th, ahead of Westview.

Chad Butcher of Kamloops scored a goal as Team Blue defeated Team White 5-2 in the B.C. Major Midget League all-star game in Coquitlam on Friday.
Butcher, who plays for the Thompson Blazers, scored the goal that made it 4-1 for Blue.
Team White featured goaltender Liam McLeod of Kamloops, who plays for the Blazers and is a draft pick of the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers, Thompson defenceman Carter Cochrane and forward Mitch Friesen of the Valley West Hawks, another of the WHL’s Blazers’ picks.
Along with Butcher, Team Blue’s roster included goaltender Braden Krogfoss of the Vancouver North West Giants, another Blazers’ list player.

The South Kamloops Titans senior girls basketball team finished 13th at the Centennial Centaurs Top-10 Shootout in Surrey on the weekend.
Playing without star centre Emma Wolfram, who is out with a concussion, the Titans went 1-3. Wolfram, who was injured during the Christmas vacation, is expected to be out at least another week.
The Titans opened with a 58-54 loss to the New Westminster Hyacks. Abby Grinberg had 21 points for the Titans and was named player of the game.
South Kam bounced back to beat the Abbotsford-W.J. Mouat Hawks 72-65. Maya Olynyk had 16 points and 15 rebounds in the victory and Bethany Del Begio had 14 points and 11 rebounds — they were co-players of the game.
Grinberg also had 17 points and 10 steals.
The Titans went on to lose 58-56 to the Victoria-Claremont Spartans. Grinberg had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Hailey Hamer-Jackson scored 10 points. Olynyk added nine points and six rebounds.
South Kam ended with a 62-51 loss to the Yale Lions. Scoring details weren’t available.

The South Kamloops Titans finished fourth at the Pitt Meadows Air Show senior boys basketball tournament.
The Titans lost 61-57 to the Cowichan Thunderbirds in a semifinal. Spencer Jaroszuk had 24 points for the Titans, player of the game Elijah Hillis-Gold helped out with 16 points and Jacob Adams scored 13.
South Kam finished with a 56-48 loss to the Delta Pacers in the bronze-medal game.
Jaroszuk had 26 points and player of the game Adams scored 16.
Jaroszuk was named a tournament all-star for the Titans, who are to play the NorKam Saints in an Okanagan AAA league game on Tuesday.

At the Dr. Knox Falcons Grade 8 girls basketball tournament in Kelowna, the South Kamloops Titans finished third.
The Titans opened with a 35-18 loss to the Dr. Knox Black squad. Tamiko Tallio had six points to lead the Titans, and Hannah McDonald added four.
South Kam went on to beat the Vernon Panthers 34-32. Tallio had eight points in the victory, with Tyra Kopytko, Lynn Morrison, Hannah Mara and McDonald each scoring six.
The Titans beat the Dr. Knox Red squad 33-20 in the third-place game. MacDonald had nine points, and Brooke Bazian, Morrison and Tallio each scored five.
The Titans are at home to the Merritt-Coquihalla Bulldogs on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
