Kelly Scott of Kelowna, the three-time defending champion, remains the only unbeaten team going into the fourth day of play at the Scotties B.C. women’s curling championship, which is being held at the North Shore Winter Club in North Vancouver.
Scott ran her record to 6-0 with a pair of Wednesday victories, beating Richmond’s Kelly Thompson 6-5 and then getting past Jen Rusnell of Prince George 5-3 in last night’s draw.
The victory allowed Scott to open up some room between her and the rest of the 10-rink field. Rinks skipped by Rusnell and New Westminster’s Kelley Law are at 4-2, with Allison MacInnes of Kamloops, Roselyn Craig of Victoria, Nicole Backe of New Westminster and Marla Mallett of New Westminster all at 3-3.
Scott, who beat Backe with one in the eighth and a steal of one in the 10th, has beaten Law in each of the last two provincial finals.
MacInnes, curling with her sister, Grace, Diane Gushulak and Amanda Guido, lost both of her Wednesday games. She gave up deuces in the fifth, eighth and 10th ends and lost 6-4 to Rusnell in the morning draw, then fell 11-9 to Marilou Richter (2-4) of Richmond last night.
Meanwhile, Sue Garvey, who also is from Kamloops, slipped to 0-6 as she lost 8-4 to Law in the morning and 9-5 to Backe in the late draw.
Garvey is curling with Patti Knezevic, Chelan Cotter, Rhonda Camozzi and fifth Lori Olsen.
Thursday morning’s draw includes Scott playing Richter, MacInnes against Backe and Garvey meeting Mallett.
Thursday night, it’ll be Scott against MacInnes and Garvey taking on Richter.
There will be a Friday morning draw, with playoffs to start that afternoon.
The winner of Sunday’s championship game will advance to the Canadian women’s championship in Red Deer, Feb. 18-26.
