Four adult ladies won medals for the Valleyview Skating Club at the Western Regional Adult Championships in Carstairs, Alta., on the weekend.
Eva Mortensen Davies won a gold medal in the Gold Interpretive Class I. Janet Dabner won the Masters Freeskate Class III and was third in the Gold Interpretive Class III.
Marilyn Triggs was second in the Pre-Introductory Interpretive, while Cheyenne Irvine was first in both the Silver Interpretive Class III and the Silver Freeskate Class III.

The Kamloops Vibe senior A team skated to a victory and a draw with Simon Fraser University in a home weekend of South Coast Female Amateur Hockey League action.
The Vibe scored two third-period goals in a 3-1 Saturday victory, before SFU scored late in Sunday’s 2-2 draw.
Alana Parker was the Vibe’s goaltender in the opener, with Alissa Hibbert tending goal Sunday.
Alyssa Reid had a goal in each game, and Rochelle Smith, Jenna Ormondy and Gaylene Smith each scored once. Melinda Smith, Shelby Easton and Emily Edmundson each had two assists for the weekend.
The Vibe is off until Feb. 24-26, when it heads to the Lower Mainland for a four-game weekend.

The Valleyview Vikings finished fifth at the Sabre Classic senior boys basketball tournament, beating the host Sa-Hali Sabres 67-65 in the fifth-place game on Saturday.
In the round-robin, Valleyview opened with a 63-45 loss to the Vernon-Clarence Fulton Maroons. Clayton Farber led the Vikings with 13 pionts, with Scott Bjorkland adding 10 points and Josh Bray getting eight.
The Prince George-Duchess Park Condoers then got past the Vikings, 60-56. Layton Demidoff had 10 points for Valleyview, with Bjorkland getting nine and William Konken nine.
The Vikings then scored a 52-49 victory over the Nelson-L.V. Rogers Bombers. Farber and Bjorkland each put in 12 points for the winners.
In the fifth-place game, Farber led the Vikings with 18 points, while Konken put in 15 and Travis Patterson had 13.

Natalee Peeters and Brad Maki, both of Kamloops, won the 10-kilometre races at the North Face Dirty Feet Snowshoe Fun Run and Walk on Sunday at Stake Lake.
Peeters covered the 10km in 57 minutes 46 seconds in winning the women’s event, while Maki won the men’s race in 49:34. Jon Shephard of Kamloops was second, in 53:53, with David Graham, also of Kamloops, third in 57:47.
The women’s 5km event went to Jennifer Elfenbein of Kamloops, in 26:24, with Monica Hall of Kamloops second in 34:56 and Cindy Sidow of Sun Peaks third in 34:58.
David Takahashi of Kamloops won the men’s 5km race in 24:10, ahead of Wayne Little of Ashcroft (26:44) and Tom Schmitt of Quesnel (27:31).

Eight competitors from the Aberdeen Judo Academy competed in the Vancouver International Open at the Richmond Olympic Oval on Saturday.
Matthew Hanks won the junior boys (under 11) middleweight division, while Geoffrey Hanks finished first in the juvenile men’s (66 kilograms) division, Drew Ramsay was first in the juvenile men’s (38kg) division, and Chris Maurer won the senior men’s (90kg) division.
Megan Hanks finished second in the junior women’s (under 20, 78kg) division, while Jasper Koo placed second in the senior men’s (90kg) division.
Andrew Iadarola was third in the senior men’s (90kg, brown and black belt) division.
John Huntley, the head instructor at the Aberdeen academy, was there as the coach.
The academy will have three juniors — Megan Hanks, Drew Ramsay and Darcy Werner — represent Zone 2 at the B.C. Winter Games, Feb. 23-26 in Vernon.
The Kamloops Classics Swim Club had 40 competitors in the KGHM Ajax Valentine Splash at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre on the weekend.

Sarah Koopmans, a nine-year-old Junior 2, won gold in the 100-metre butterfly, 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly. She also picked up silver medals in the 100 backstroke and 100 inidividual medley. She placed third in the 200 IM.
Ashley Bagabuyo, another nine-year-old Junior 2, won the 100 freestyle and 100 IM, was second in the 200 IM, 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, and third in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
In 10-year-old girls, Olivia McKay finished first and qualified with a AA provincial time standard in the 50 freestyle for 11-year-oldgirls.
For the 11-and-over girls, Eloise Ladyman placed first in the 100 butterfly, while Cohen Freeze, 9, was first in the 400 freestyle. Ella DeRose, a new Novice swimmer in the eight-and-under girls, won the 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke and placed third in the 50 freestyle.
Maya Carrier, 8, had third-place finishes in the 25 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 50 backstroke.

The Sa-Hali Sabres senior girls basketball team placed ninth at the York House tournament on the weekend.
The Sabres opened with a 56-48 loss to the Victoria-St. Michael’s University Blue Devils, the No. 10-ranked AA team.Nicole Karstein led the Sabres with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Miori Futemma added 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Vancouver-Britannia Bruins, who now are the No. 1-ranked AA team in the province, beat the Sabres, 71-50. Karstein had 11 points and 10 rebounds, with Kiana Rainville getting 10 points.
Karstein then scored 18 points and hauled down 11 rebounds in a 67-44 victory over the Vancouver-Crofton House Cubs. Haley Cochran helped out with 18 points and nine rebounds.
In their final game, the Sabres erased an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter and defeated the Victoria-Claremont Spartans, a AAA team, 50-47. Senise Sigsworth led the Sabres with 11 points and eight rebounds. Karstein, who was named an honourable-mention all-star, had 10 points.

The Van Ryswyk Indoor Track and Field Invitational is scheduled for Feb. 17-19 at the Tournament Capital Centre.
This meet is played host to by the Kamloops Track and Field Club and is open to athletes ages nine and up. There also will be a ‘Track Rascals’ event available for those ages six to eight.
Events will begin on the afternoon of Feb. 17 and run through the afternoon of Feb. 19. Athletes from across B.C. and Alberta are expected to attend.
The field is expected to include West Vancouver’s Olga Kotelko, who competes as a 90-year-old in the Masters divisions.
Kotelko, who will turn 93 on March 2, is the world’s oldest long jump competitor and holds 23 world records.

Kamloops Gymnastics and Trampoline Club athletes had 24 top-10 finishes at the second trials in Burnaby over the weekend.
Emily Schmidt, competing at a national level in novice 11-14, won silver in trampoline, gold in B women tumbling and was second on double mini trampoline in A women. She has qualified for a spot on Team BC in tumbling and double mini.
Jean-Luc Larouche finished second in novice 15-plus on trampoline in A men’s.
Rachel Beauchamp was fourth in women’s a trampoline and eighth in double mini.
Adrielle Bertrand won the women’s B double mini and was second in tumbling and 14th in trampoline.
Jordan Ferguson placed second in men’s B trampoline, and won the men’s C tumbling.
Madeline Hart wound up eighth overall in women’s B trampoline and 14th in women’s C double mini.
Tyra Maunula was second in women’s C double mini and 20th in women’s B trampoline.
Jaxson Coull won the men’s C trampoline and double mini.
Jaeden Gorman, in his first competition, was fourth in men’s C double mini and 10th in trampoline.
Ben Jacoby, also in his first competition, was fifth in 10-and-under trampoline and sixth in double mini.
