Former Merritt Mountie has court date pushed to May

Former Merritt RCMP Staff Sgt. Stu Seib, who allegedly stole and used cocaine from police evidence, will appear in court on May 23 instead of in February.

Seib’s first appearance to face one charge of theft under $5,000 in Merritt court was originally scheduled for Tuesday. However, the date has since been changed to May 23.

(In a January interview, a Crown prosecutor said the charge was theft of a controlled substance.)

A Kamloops court registry representative said the court database did not provide any reason for the change.

Seib was arrested in January shortly after the RCMP removed him from his post as Merritt detachment commander and suspended him from duty.
