    TRU: Huskies run past WolfPack

    The TRU WolfPack women’s basketball team was swept out of the Canada West playoffs after a 56-43 loss to the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.

    The WolfPack lost the best-of-three series in two games. The Huskies will move into the Canada West Final Four.

    Saskatchewan took an 18-4 lead after the first 10 minutes, and was up 34-15 at the half. The WolfPack turned the ball over 23 times in the game.

    “We couldn’t hit shots in the first half but played better in the second,” TRU head coach Scott Reeves said in a release.“I’m very proud of our effort this entire (season).”

    Rookie guard Taiysa Worsfold led the WolfPack with 13 points, and Jorri Duxbury added 12. Kabree Howard had 17 points to lead the Huskies, and Dalyce Emmerson scored 12.

    Three of the WolfPack’s graduating players were playing their final games — guard Kaitlyn Widsten, forward Michelle Dimond and centre Kailey Colonna.

    Joining Saskatchewan in the Canada West Final Four will be the host Regina Cougars, UBC Thunderbirds and Fraser Valley Cascades.

    The WolfPack hockey team split its weekend games, beating Trinity Western 4-3 at home on Friday before losing 7-3 to Simon Fraser in Burnaby on Saturday.

    Andrew Fisher, Kyle Allan and David Gore scored for the WolfPack on Saturday, with goaltender Shane Mainprize making 42 saves.

    Ben Van Lare had a goal and three assists for SFU, and Todd Fletcher, Jono Ceci and Colton Graf each had a goal and two helpers.

    Tyler Mah, Kyle Boyko and Trent Murdoch also scored for SFU, which got 36 saves from goaltender Graeme Gordon.

    On Friday, Dylan Becker, Fisher, Allan and Cody Lockwood scored for TRU, which got 25 saves from Riley Wall. Jose Reyes and Shane Oatway each had two assists.

    Tristano Falbo, with two, and Brandon Long scored for TWU, and goaltender Tim Zwiers made 32 stops.
