Kamloops shot putter Dylan Armstrong was named Sport B.C.’s top senior male athlete at a banquet in Richmond on Thursday.
Armstrong, who had the world’s longest throw in 2011, was one of 17 award winners named Thursday. Armstrong finished second at the world athletics championships, was first in the prestigious Diamond League series and also set a Pan American Games record in winning gold in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Armstrong’s coach, Anatoliy Bondarchuk of Kamloops, also was honoured by Sport B.C. on Thursday.
Bondarchuk, who runs the National Throws Centre in town, was named coach of the year.
The top senior female athlete is Victoria triathlete Paula Findlay. B.C. Lions kicker Paul McCallum won the Best of B.C. award.
