Kamloops woman dies in crash on Highway 97

A Kamloops woman was killed in a highway collision Thursday afternoon on Hwy. 97 between Westwold and Falkland.

Vernon RCMP were called to the accident around 4 p.m. on a four-lane stretch of the highway.

The woman, in her 30s, was driving towards Kamlooops when her Chevy collided with a Jeep towing a trailer in the oncoming lane. She was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene. The two occupants of the Jeep are from the Aldergrove area and were not injured in the crash.

Initial investigation by a traffic analyst at the accident scene indicated that the Chevy crossed the centre line and struck the Jeep’s trailer. Road conditions were not considered a contributing factor since the surface was bare and dry at the time.

The identity of the driver was not released Friday morning while police were trying to reach her next of kin.

Police and coroner’s investigations continue. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact traffic investigators in Vernon at 250-545-7171.
