Rock slide closes highway

No one injured when section of the rock wall beside Moyie Lake fell away Friday

A rock slide beside Moyie Lake closed Highway 3 for a full day Saturday.

According to Drive BC, the slide occurred at about 8:45 p.m. Friday, March 16.

No one was injured by the debris, but it was enough that both lanes of traffic were closed throughout the night and most of the morning Saturday.

The arterial highway connecting Cranbrook to Creston and the West Kootenays, and south to the Kingsgate border to Idaho, reopened to single-lane traffic at around noon Saturday.

Both lanes were opened at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, but traffic personnel were on site overnight.

Delays were experienced throughout the day Sunday as remaining debris was removed from the road.
