This past Sunday, I woke up to encouragement and congratulation from my wonderful wife. She knows how much I like a sleep in on Sunday! Then I looked out the window. It was snowing. Oh boy. But, I dragged myself out of the house and made it on time to Run Club.
Each session, it seems the goal is to increase the amount of running time and to decrease the amount of walking time. It seemed daunting this Sunday. Again, though, buoyed by the incredible group atmosphere, I made it through. Indeed, it did not seem so hard. It also struck me that our group has an incredible diversity of people, of all shapes and sizes and of all ages. This feature of the beginners run club group makes it feel very comfortable.
We are now walking for three and half minutes and running for two and half minutes - seven times.
This was also the week where I made a few new friends. I have seen my running group mates a few times, we are getting more comfortable seeing each other, and it seems more natural now to strike up a conversation.
I also participated in the Tuesday training this week. I hit a bit of momentary snag. My calf muscles tightened up during the run and it became quite painful. Coach Cathy and Coach Laurel were awesome!! So positive and helped me stretch the muscle out properly. The Run Club coaches are so supportive.
