    Volunteers Needed

    Volunteer Kamloops is a non-profit charity supporting community volunteering.

    Simply The Best: Thrift Store volunteers are needed for a variety of positions, including electrical technician, customer service representatives, merchandise cleaner and collectables/antique researcher. There will be hands-on orientation and training available to all volunteers.

    Bear Aware Program: Volunteer needed to alert neighbourhoods where bears are a problem, including possible door-to-door campaigns. Volunteers also needed for preparation of educational displays, participating in displays at community events and possibly making presentations to community groups.

    Interior Health: Royal Inland Hospital has a variety of positions available, including school tour guide, emergency department, diagnostic imaging reception, intensive-care unit, cancer clinic, friendly visitor and information desk.
    Kamloops Immigrant Services: ESL tutors needed to help newcomers and immigrants learn and or improve basic English skills (speaking, reading, writing, etc). Mentors will help a newcomer/immigrant settle in Canada through a friendship/buddy program as well as provide guidance and information about different areas of employment, personal interests, etc.

    People in Motion: General maintenance person needed to complete some basic maintenance, including cleaning around the office and grounds. This might entail changing fluorescent light tubes, window wipers, sweeping and tidying on the para-transit bus as well as light snow removal and recycling returns. The volunteer should be able to complete duties with minimal support. He or she should be able to do light lifting, use a step ladder and have some knowledge of general maintenance techniques and use of tools.

    Restorative Justice Facilitator: Facilitator will oversee each of the caseworkers on a file and ensure the case stays on track from beginning to end. They will also contact victims, offenders, conduct interviews and ensure participants are willing to participate in the program. Facilitator will also arrange a community conference and oversee any agreement. Volunteers must attend a three-day facilitator training course, observe, co-facilitate, and facilitate five conferences to obtain certificate. A facilitator’s role is to act as a neutral party and to ensure a safe environment for all involved. Must be a team player.

    Ridgeview Lodge: Volunteers needed for several positions. Volunteers must be able to push a wheelchair and take direction from the staff.

    Afternoon Auxiliary at RIH: Volunteers are needed for the knitting and sewing groups to create handmade items for sale in the Afternoon Auxiliary and RIH Gift Shop, as well as knit caps for premature babies. Wool and fabric available for items being made at home and on a case-by-case basis.

    Overlander and Ponderosa: Volunteers required for many different positions, including office work, social outings and one-to-one.

    People in Motion: Volunteer walkers are required for the walking program called “Walk & Roll.” Office support assistant also needed.

    Canadian Red Cross: Disaster management volunteer needed to provide social services, support and recovery assistance. Volunteer will also put response plans into operation, respond to client queries, complete client assessments and administrative followup, as well as participate in preparedness activities and training.
