Annual downtown display: This art is made for walkin’

There will be plenty of art to see in downtown Kamloops as more than 40 retailers, restaurants, and galleries have joined this year’s Artwalk.

“The Artwalk is a beautiful partnership between local artists and downtown businesses,” Kathy Sinclair, manager of the Kamloops Arts Council, said Monday.

“We are so excited about this year’s lineup — there is really something for everyone.”

The 13th Artwalk runs from April 23 to May 21 and showcases work from a variety of local artists. Pottery, paintings, video art, textiles and even stained glass will be on display.

Established artists Tricia Sellmer and Shelia Beck will display their work alongside young artists like Keith Wood, 14, and Elena Compton, 11, Sinclair said in a press release.

New retailers on the tour this year are Lavender Lingerie, Anderson’s Sewing and All A-Board Games.

“I think it’s often the artwork at locations where you wouldn’t expect to see it that attracts the most attention,” she said.

An official launch party takes place Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Instinct Adornment at 319 Victoria St. The event features live models showing off tattoo art from behind free-hanging pictures frames.
