Couple missing, could be near Fernie or Sparwood

A couple from Fort Macleod has gone missing on route to Fernie.

According to RCMP, Jacob and Anja Oosterwyjk left their home in Fort Macleod on Saturday, April 14 at 11:30 a.m. for a day trip to Fernie, but they haven't been heard from since.

Although foul play is not suspected, police are worried they may be stranded in a remote area somewhere between Fort Macleod and Fernie. It's very unusual for the couple not to be in regular contact with their family.

The couple were driving a dark green 1997 Honda CRV with an Alberta license plate, BCC7195.

Jacob is about six foot tall and of medium build. He wears glasses, is bald with a close shaved beard, and was wearing blue jeans with a brown leather jacket and a dark brown baseball cap.

Anja is about five foot, seven inches tall and of medium build. She also wears glasses, has short dark brown hair, and was wearing either jeans or a jean skirt with a dark blue winter coat.

The two speak both English and Dutch.

According to police, there is a chance the Oosterwyjks took side roads off Highway 3 in the Crowsnest Pass or near Sparwood or Fernie. RCMP are worried they may have become lost or stuck.

Anyone who may have seen Jacob or Anya Oosterwyjk is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or contact Fort Macleod RCMP at 403-553-7200.
