Women’s historic influence on Kamloops focus of lecture

Retired TRU history professor Andrew Yarmie knows a lot about women — at least in the historic sense.

Yarmie is giving a lecture, open to anyone, on Thursday, May 3, that looks at women’s contributions to this city.

From the work of pioneers to the community organizations that have developed, women have had a huge influence here.

Yarmie will take a particularly close look at the Ladies Auxiliary to Royal Inland Hospital, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, Red Cross Society, the Council of Women and the Young Women's Christian Association.

The lecture runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kamloops Museum and Archives, 207 Seymour St. The cost is $8 and it’s best to register beforehand. You can do so by calling 250-828-3500 and give course number 190989, or go online to www.kamloops.ca/ezreg.
