    The clean-up crew

On Sunday, April 22 about 15 members, and their kids, of the Kamloops Geocaching club participated in 10th annual Cache In Trash Out weekend. This is an international clean-up event that included cachers in at least 15 countries.

The Kamloops Clean-up, in the Lac Du Bois Grasslands, netted six pick-ups and a trailer of junk in under three hours. The trailer alone carried over 1,300 kg. We collected about five tonnes (4,915 kg) of material. The garbage included everything from cutlery to furniture to concrete sidewalk sections to a hot tub.

Members were amazed and disappointed at how easy it was to find this much trash. That this unique environment is used as a dump by so many is a sad reflection on our community.

If you are interested in finding out more about the group please search Kamloops Geocaching on Facebook.

Thanks to all who came out, to Anderson Construction for the trailer, and to the City of Kamloops for providing free dumping.
