    Amazing Race deemed a success

    Murray Mitchell

Petland manager Trish Hines, left, seems to delight in watching Courtney Sampson of Team Beauty and The Beast as she reaches into a pail filled with more than 400 crickets to retrieve her next clue in the second annual Absolute Amazing Race. Organized by the Westsyde Community Development Society as a fundraiser for a planned water park at Centennial Park, a total of 24 teams of two faced numerous challenges, detours, roadblocks and pit stops in a race similar to the popular television series. The race was held in Kamloops Saturday and Sunday and featured great travel getaways for the top two teams.

Westsyde Community Development Society will be able to contribute its share of the costs for the first phase of a water park planned in Centennial Park.

The organization collected about $5,000 over the weekend from its second annual Absolute Amazing Race, said event co-ordinator, Corrina Douglas.

Work begins this summer on washrooms and change rooms, the first phase of the waterpark. The cost of that phase is projected at $100,000.
