Volunteer Kamloops is a non-profit charity supporting community volunteering.
Canadian Mental Health: Tax volunteer needed to complete tax returns for CMHA clients. This position is perfect for a retired person or someone with a few hours available each month from May to February and can do 10 to 15 returns a week in the busy tax season of March and April.
Overlander Ski Club: Various positions available. Groomers must hold a valid B.C. driver’s licence and be flexible with hours to operate machinery according to weather conditions. Trail maintenance personnel must be in good physical condition. May need to know chainsaw operation or be able to pull seedlings, trim shrubs and brush from trails. Also needed are loppet volunteers, aid-station attendants, parking attendants and refreshment assistants.
BIG Little Science Centre: Volunteer greeter and room supervisor volunteers should have a friendly, inviting personality and be able to greet visitors at the door, explain the science centre layout, take care of visitor services and collect fees. In addition, there will be hands on room supervision and essentially having fun with all our visitors whether individuals, families, classroom visits or tourists visiting for the first time. More possibilities can be discussed. Training provided.
Simply The Best Thrift Store: Volunteers needed for a variety of positions, including electrical technician, customer service representatives, merchandise cleaners and a collectibles-antique researcher. There will be hands-on orientation and training available to all volunteers.
People in Motion: Volunteers needed for two programs, including the walking program called “Walk & Roll” and office support assistant.
Boys and Girls Club of Kamloops: Race for Kids, Saturday, June 2. Volunteers needed for a variety of positions, including registration, volunteer headquarters crew, baggage check attendants, committee support (set up-tear down crew), photographers, finish-line ambassadors, station leaders, support staff, timers, food and drink station attendants, Photo Zone ambassador, entertainment-support crew. Orientation will be on Friday, June 1.
Bear Aware Program: Volunteer needed to alert neighbourhoods where bears are a problem (possible door-to-door campaigns). Also, preparation of educational displays, participating in displays at community events and possible presentations to community groups.
Interior Health: Royal Inland Hospital has a variety of positions available, including school tour guide, emergency department, diagnostic imaging reception, intensive-care unit, cancer clinic, friendly visitor, information desk, Afternoon Auxiliary and RIH Gift Shop.
Kamloops Immigrant Services: ESL Tutors needed to help with newcomers to Canada learn or improve basic English skills (speaking, reading, writing, etc). Mentors will help immigrants settle in Canada through a friendship-buddy program. They will also provide guidance and information about different areas of employment, interest, etc.
Restorative Justice Facilitator: Volunteer needed to oversee each of the caseworkers on a file and ensure the case stays on track from beginning to end. They will also contact victims, offenders, conduct interviews and ensure participants are willing to participate in the program. As well, they will arrange a community conference and oversee any agreement.Volunteers must attend a three-day facilitator training course, observe, co-facilitate, and facilitate five conferences to obtain certificate. A facilitator’s role is to act as a neutral party and to ensure a safe environment for all involved. Must be a team player.
