OUR ANSWER: We asked Jeff Putnam for the answer to that. He’s the facilities and business operations manager for the City’s parks and recreation department.
As most Kamloops residents already know, the City operates many outdoor recreation facilities that have lighting systems — Charles Anderson Stadium, Tournament Capital Ranch Slo-pitch park (which has two fields), Norbrock Stadium and Hillside Stadium.
“Each facility offers its own unique lighting needs,” said Putnam.
Staff at Norbrock Stadium manually turn the lights on and off at night when the stadium is booked.
The lights at Hillside Stadium — the one that prompted this question — are set on an automated system and are timed to stay on until 11 p.m. when the TCC closes.
In 2011, the total hydro cost for Hillside Stadium was $23,000, which covered the outdoor lights, scoreboard, media room, sound system, washrooms and parking lot lights.
