The Nicola Valley Minor Lacrosse Association has a busy schedule packed with Nicola Valley Thunder games across all divisions at home and away this weekend.
According to parent volunteer Shauna Clinging, both the local tykes and novices will face off against teams from Kamloops at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena on Saturday.
The tykes' game starts at 10 a.m. and the novice game begins at noon.
Meanwhile, the Thunder bantams hit the highway on Saturday for a two-game road trip with games scheduled against opponents in Armstrong and Kelowna.
The midgets play in Revelstoke on Saturday as well.
On Sunday, the Nicola Valley Thunder peewees play in Kelowna and the novices make their way to Penticton.
Clinging says that between 55 and 60 players have signed up for lacrosse this season, which opened in mid-April.
"Our numbers are down a bit this year."
The season will end in mid- to late-June, depending on playoffs.
Registration in the Nicola Valley Minor Lacrosse Association for the 2012 season is open until Sunday. Prospective players can sign up at the Merritt Civic Centre or Nicola Valley Aquatic Centre during regular hours.
"We have room for players at all levels, but the need is a little bit stronger with the younger ones," says Clinging.
She adds that each team can have as many as 22 players, but 16 is a reasonable number, enough for two line changes. None of the divisions have reached 16 players.
