The Merritt Barbarians men's rugby team has gone back to the drawing board after a crushing defeat at the hands of the Vernon Jackals last Saturday.
The Barbarians, looking for the second road win of the season in Vernon, held in with the defending champion Jackals, who were 0-2 to start the season. Vernon led 3-0 going into the second half.
But the boys from Merritt ran into some penalty trouble, and from there, the Jackals just exposed the holes in the visiting team.
"A series of penalties against Merritt and stronger loose play by the Jackals allowed them to pull away in the second half," said back Nathan Brigden. "We lost our composure and allowed them to get the better of us."
Barbarians head coach Tom Wigglesworth adds that inconsistent reffing only made matters worse for his squad.
"We just weren't organized, really, but we'll have to get back to the drawing board and sort things out."
