The two-time defending-champion Calgary Renegades are 2-0 after completing their round-robin at the Canadian under-18 women’s club water polo championship, which opened Thursday at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
The Renegades, the championship’s top seed, opened with a 22-4 victory over the Renegades B team, before topping Ottawa 8-2. Calgary’s A team will play in a quarterfinal today, 3 p.m.
The other quarterfinals, the matchups for which have yet to be determined, are scheduled for 4:20, 5:40 and 7 p.m.
The Scarborough Shadow is 1-1 after the opening day, as it beat Manitoba 10-5 but lost 11-9 to Vancouver’s Pacific Storm, the championship’s host team.
Montreal’s CAMO club defeated Dollard, from Quebec, 11-6 in their round-robin game. Both teams are off to the quarterfinals, with Dollard to play at 5:40 p.m., and CAMO up at 7 p.m.
Fraser Valley has booked its ticket to the quarterfinals after beating Hamilton 21-8 and Saskatchewan 8-7 on Thursday.
There are still three games remaining in the round-robin, and they all have playoff implications.
Ottawa and the Renegades B team will play today, 9 a.m., with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals and the loser dropping to placement games. Pacific Storm can qualify for the quarterfinals with a victory over Manitoba at 10:20 a.m.
The final round-robin game will pit Saskatchewan and Hamilton — the winner of that game will move into the quarterfinals as well.
The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, at 2 and 3:20 p.m., with the championship final to go Sunday at 1:20 p.m.

Kamloops Community Football’s registration for the 2012 season is coming up.
Registration for the atom, peewee and junior-bantam age groups is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Tournament Capital Centre.

Wade Ressler scored twice to lead Duffy’s Pub to a 3-2 Kamloops Recreational Soccer League 45-plus division victory over SBE-Kamcon on Wednesday.
Kevin Fertile also scored in support of Duffy’s goalkeepers Wally Brain and Pete Grinberg. Keith Trainor and Hamish Plommer had the goals for SBE-Kamcon, which had Peter Hack in goal.
In another 45-plus game Wednesday, Rob Piva scored three goals and Ken Spivak and Bobby Taylor singled as Ideal MSP and Frick and Frack played to a 5-5 draw.
Rob Bittante and Cleve Maartman, with two apiece, and Tony Scarcello had the goals for Frick and Frack.

In a matchup of two Kamloops Blaze youth soccer teams, the under-14 Tier 2 boys beat the under-13 Tier 1 boys 3-0.
Zach Rachynski had two goals and Tomas Goddard also scored in support of shutout goalkeeping from Sam Fehst and Tyler Allan.
