    Sports Briefs: 'Dogs win two, have two postponed

    The Kamloops Player’s Bench RiverDogs won their weekend midget AAA baseball games to improve to 8-2.

    The RiverDogs were supposed to have played four games, but poor field conditions in Chilliwack forced the postponement of their Sunday games. The doubleheader has been rescheduled for July 21.

    On Saturday, Kamloops defeated the host Tri-City Indians 13-4 and 4-3.

    Mike Gilfillan was the winning pitcher in the opener, with Leyton Edye pitching two shutout innings in relief. Colin Rintoul had two doubles, two runs and three RBI, and Kyle Pouncy and Dylan Luison each had a single, a double, two RBI and two runs.

    Tyler Cousineau went the distance in the second game, scattering seven hits. James Arko had a single, a run, an RBI and a stolen base, with Blayne Halland stroking two singles and driving in a run. Connor Kozak had a double and drew two walks.

    The RiverDogs are scheduled to play host to Cloverdale on Saturday and Tri-City on Sunday. All four games are at Canada Games Field.

    Mark Jurista scored four times as the Kamloops Rattlers defeated the host Armstrong Shamrocks 9-6 in a Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League game Friday.

    Nathan Woldum scored twice, and Lee Black, J.J. Woldum and Travis Joseph also scored for the Rattlers. Brett Baker had three assists and Jesse Wessel and Dave Bannister each had two helpers.

    Mike Smith made 20 saves.

    The Rattlers fired 50 shots on Armstrong goalteander Chad Pieper.

    The Rattlers, who are 3-1, are scheduled to play in Vernon on Friday.

    Chris Tynan scored twice to lead NRI Distribution past B.C. Rivers Consulting 4-3 in a Kamloops Recreational Soccer League 45-plus game Sunday.

    Mike Anfield and Luis Adamo also scored for NRI, which had Duncan Kerr in goal.

    Bosko Trkla had two goals, one of them on a penalty kick, and Chuck Mackenzie scored in support of B.C. Rivers goalkeeper Mark Hopkins.

    The South Kamloops Titans junior badminton team finished second at the Okanagan championships in Kamloops on the weekend.

    The Titans lost 7-4 to the Salmon Arm-King’s Christian Knights, before dropping the Kelowna Owls 6-3. Each of South Kam’s players earned a victory.
