Scott Clark has plucked a highly touted shooting guard out of Ontario.
Clark, the head coach of the TRU WolfPack men’s basketball team, announced Monday that Troy Rose-Grant of Brampton has committed for the 2012-13 Canada West season. Rose-Grant, who stands 6-foot-3, plans to enrol in arts courses in hopes of majoring in law in the future.
“I am so excited to be going to Thompson Rivers,” said Grant, in a news release. “I visited Kamloops in early March and not only loved the mountains, but the city and the campus. People were so friendly. Add to that a great recruiting class and coach Scott Clark and it was an easy choice for me to make.”
Rose-Grant averaged 16.8 points, 6.2 assists and four rebounds as his club team, the Regional Elite Development Academy in Toronto, won the national prep school athletic association crown in 2012.
“He is a guy with a lot of upside, “ said Clark, in a news release. “He is very athletic and a bigger guy for a point guard. He has some quickness to him. He has the ability to shoot the basketball. He has some tools which, down the road, will lead to him being a pretty good point guard in this league in the future.”
Three other players have committed to the WolfPack — Kamloops forward Spencer Jaroszuk, Terrace centre Kenny Monture and guard Tre Haslom of Marysville, Wash.

The WolfPack baseball team finished its Canadian College Baseball Conference season at 17-11 after going 3-1 in Kelowna on the weekend.
TRU is scheduled to play host to the CCBC championship tournament at NorBrock Stadium from Thursday to Sunday. All five CCBC teams will attend.
The WolfPack beat the Okanagan College Coyotes 10-3 and Vancouver Island Mariners 12-0 on Saturday, before beating the Mariners 7-2 and losing 1-0 to the Coyotes on Sunday.
Denver Wynn earned the victory in the opener, as Dave Hole had a home run and three RBI. Tyler Lowey also drove in two runs, while Kyle Sandulescu went 3-for-3 and drove in a pair. Brock Stewart had two hits, including a double.
Travis Nevakshonoff was the winning pitcher in the second game, and Sandulescu had two more hits. Alex Condon had a homer, a double and a single, stole a base and drove in three runs. Matt Whiteford had two hits and drove in a run.
Mike Juarez won Sunday’s opener, allowing one run in five innings. Levi Kerns hit a solo home run, Lowey drove in two runs on a double and Sean Ash went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Steve Latos took the loss in the second game, in which each team managed only three hits. Condon, Sandulescu and Rob Morrison had singles for the WolfPack.
