Merritt Secondary School’s boys’ rugby team lost to St. Ann’s Academy of Kamloops in their league semifinals Tuesday, ending the Merritt boys’ brief season.
St. Ann’s defeated Merritt Secondary School 24-19.
Coach Nathan Brigden notes that Merritt lost in its one other meeting with St. Ann’s earlier in the year.
“Once again, a lack of discipline and organization were factors in the Merritt loss,” he says.
Daniel Gradinaru, Daniel Poulin, and Levi Potter all scored tries in the game. Ben Cunningham was also able to add two conversions despite a strong wind, says Brigden.
Brigden says the game brought the MSS boys’ brief season, which consisted of five games, to an end.
“A number of the boys are running with the Barbarians as they continue their season, furthering their rugby education,” he adds.
The rugby team played despite the cancellation of many extracurricular activities due to ongoing labour negotiations between schools and teachers.
