The Kamloops Youth Soccer Association’s Slurpee Cup will have a full field of 157 teams.

The tournament, in its 34th year, will be played Saturday and Sunday at fields around Kamloops — the center of activity will be McArthur Island, which features four mini pitches and eight full-size pitches.

Of the 157 teams scheduled to participate, 20 of them are from Kamloops. The tournament is for boys and girls teams in the under-12 to under-18 divisions.

KYSA is estimating that around 2,500 athletes will be taking part in the Slurpee Cup, while 400 team managers, coaches and assistant coaches also will be present. More than 100 officials will also be participating in the tournament, featuring more than 300 games.

Games start at 9 a.m., Saturday, and 8:30 a.m., Sunday.

The South Kamloops Titans beat the Mount Boucherie Bears 3-1 in West Kelowna on Wednesday to win the Okanagan senior girls AAA soccer title.

Both teams are to attend provinvials, scheduled for May 31 to June 2 in Surrey, but South Kam will be the higher seed.
Tena Monahan, with two, and Courtney Daly scored for South Kam. Larissa Piva and Kathleen Leonard each played a half in goal.

Three Kamloops girls are scheduled to take part in B.C. Hockey’s female under-18 camp in Salmon Arm this weekend.

The camp starts today, and features players selected from the 2012 B.C. Cup, which was held in April in Invermere. This weekend’s camp runs through Monday, and from it, players will be selected for a summer camp.

Forwards Emily Gervais, Jordan Finnie and Chanelle Petrie will represent Kamloops at the camp. Gervais is on Team Blue, with Finnie suiting up for Team Green and Petrie on Team White.

Bernard John pitched a one-hitter for Lytton, but his team could only manage a 2-2 draw with True Consulting Group in a Tuesday Kamloops Major Men’s Fastball League game.

The lone hit off John was a two-run home run by John Pagnotta in the second inning. Lytton’s Dedric Alec drove in the tying run with a single in the third inning. Brad Neufeld struck out six for True.

Lytton went on to lose 8-0 to the Chase Prowlers in the late game, with Chase pitcher Nick Underhill allowing only one hit.
The hit was from the leadoff batter — it was a swinging bunt. Underhill struck out 14 in the game, which was shortened to five innings due to runspread.

Underhill also hit a two-run home run in the fifth. Jason Lans was 3-for-3 with a solo home run, two singles, two RBI and three runs. Barry Dennis also had three singles.

The B.C. Lions, who will be holding their training camp in Kamloops, announced that three junior players have been invited to rookie camp.

Rookie camp runs May 30 through June 1, before main camp starts June 3.

Jordan Yantz, a quarterback for the Vancouver Island Raiders, and receiver Danny Turek and defensive lineman Steve Doege of the Okanagan Sun have been invited to the CFL team’s rookie camp. All three play in the B.C. Football Conference.

The Blackwell Dairy Run is looking for volunteers.

The run, 15 kilometres in distance and also featuring a three-kilometre fun run for children, is scheduled for May 27 at Barnhartvale’s R.L. Clemitson Elementary. All volunteers will be treated to a delicious pancake breakfast, and also will be included in draw prizes.

Noble Pig got goals from three different players in a 3-0 victory over Pronto Enterprises in Kamloops Men’s Soccer League action Tuesday.

Zach Mirosevic, Darcy Geldart and Aaron Kidd scored the goals.

Tuesday’s other game ended with Harrison Industrial defeating Finley United 5-0.

Kevin Cooper, Josh Giddens, Torrey Hough, Chris Monteleone and Abbas Bawazir scored the goals.

Emily Schmidt of the Kamloops Gymnastics Trampoline Centre won two medals at the Western Canada Cup Trampoline Gymnastics Championships in Edmonton on the weekend.

Schmidt, one of three KGTC athletes on Team B.C., was second in the women’s A synchro trampoline and third in women’s B tumbling. She also was 10th in the women’s A double-mini.

Gavin Dodd, the youngest Team B.C. athlete at 8, was fifth in men’s D tumbling, second in men’s B trampoline and third in men’s B double-mini. Team B.C.’s Adrielle Bertrand was fifth in women’s B tumbling, 14th in women’s B trampoline and 16th in women’s B double-mini. She also was second in women’s A synchro trampoline.

Kristina Dodd, representing the KGTC, was fourth in the women’s C double-mini and women’s C trampoline and 13th in women’s C tumbling. Rachel Beauchamp was 14th in both the women’s B tumbling and the women’s A trampoline, and 22nd in women’s A trampoline.

Schmidt has qualified for the Canada Cup in Langley from July 13-15.

Lauren Wotton of the Kamloops Gymnastics Trampoline Centre finished first all-around in the Level 4 Open category at the weekend’s Delta Invitational artistic gymnastics competition.

Wotton, 16, was first on the vault, beam and floor, and took second on bars.

Emily Schultz, 23, who is off to nationals next week, was 14th all-around in the National Open, taking seventh on bars and ninth on beam. Kassia Gifford, 13, was 25th all-around in the same group.

Shayla Gifford, 11, was fifth all-around in the Level 4 All-Novice — she was third on the beam and floor and sixth on vault and bars.

Emilee Gal and Kierra Patterson, both 13, competed in the Level 3 Novice/Open, with Gal taking eighth all-around, winning bronze on beam and taking eighth on vault. Patterson was second on vault, fifth on floor and eighth on bars.

Quinn Butcher, 11, was second on bars and fourth on vault in the Level 3 Tyro, while 12-year-old Taylor Gray was seventh all-around in the category, with a fourth-place finish on beam and fifth on bars. Jade Wood, in the same division, was ninth all-around, fourth on floor, fifth on vault and eighth on bars.

A pair of 10th-place finishes on the beam and floor helped 13-year-old Hope Harvey finish 11th all-around in the Level 2 Novice.

Chantal Martens, 11, competed in the Level 2 Tyro, and was ninth all-around, taking fifth on beam, sixth on floor and seventh on bars and vault. Martina Fish, in the same division, was 15th all-around.

Five KGTC girls competed in the Level 2 Argo, with Christine Strain taking fifth all-around and finishing third on beam, fifth on bars and seventh on floor. Bella Wood was eighth overall and eighth on vault, while Linnea Ganstal was ninth all-around, sixth on floor and seventh on bars and beam.

Emma Guertin was 13th all-around, going fifth on floor and sixth on beam. Taylor Baxter was 14th all-around, finishing second on floor.

The TRU WolfPack announced that it will be changing its assistant coaches for the next B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Head coach Don Schulz and general manager Chris Hans said that Shane Zulyniak and Joel Leonard are leaving the team. They will be replaced by Mark Chase and Kevin Johnston.

Chase is a former Kamloops Minor Hockey Player who now scouts for the WHL’s Prince George Cougars, while Johnston, a former UBC Thunderbirds player, was the KMHA’s rep coach of the year last season.

Chase will be a video coach for the WolfPack.
